Hello and welcome to the website of the North Western Young Members Panel of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. The North Western Young Members Panel has been going for over a year now and already we are one of the most renowned Young Member Panels in the UK. In our first year we held a prestigious event at the Manchester Arndale promoting Engineering to the wider public, the run up to which included TV and Radio appearances by members of the panel, we held our first Team Challenge with 40 young engineers tearing round a karting track at 40mph, established the Andrew Medd Award for the North West Young Mechanical Engineer of the Year as well as various industrial visits.
Over the coming year we will be organising a series of skills development lectures by renowned Management consultant Dennis Beard, a trip to see the Eurofighter Typhoon final assembly at BAE Systems plus many other events including of course the Annual Team Challenge, which this year will be taking place in Cumbria. We are also supporting a number of schools throughout the North West in the IMechE GreenPower scheme which is a challenge to schools to build and race a battery powered car – and we are even building our own car to race in the corporate competition!
We have area panels in Manchester and Cumbria, and the Regional YM Panel is largely based in the Preston area, so wherever you are you can join in and get involved with the IMechE. Our current active members have benefited in many ways; personal development (which counts towards your Professional Registration), networking as well as making new friends. What’s more, involvement can be as much or as little as you want so you can fit it around your schedule to suit your commitments and it’s a great way to add to your development.
